Jabeur and Sharapova cross paths at the Abu Dhabi F1 Grand Prix.
|Two WTA Tour stars got together at yet another major athletic event.
At the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on Sunday, former Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova and current world No.
6 Ons Jabeur crossed paths. This marked the meeting of two tennis superstars.
Sharapova clarified her presence by stating, “I’ve known Lewis for many years,” and that she was there to support
Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton. I will always be there for him. She also got together with Jabeur, a player she has
been supporting lately. She did, in fact, declare earlier in the year that she was rooting for Ons to win her first Grand
Slam on Rennae Stubbs’ podcast. She so richly deserves that.
Holger Rune, who was present at the race, tweeted following the event, expressing his own, more modest, driving aspirations:
“Now I am inspired to finish my drivers’ licence.”
Other recent tennis/F1 encounters include last week’s match between Sloane Stephens in Las Vegas, George Russell of Mercedes
and Novak Djokovic in Monte Carlo, and Oscar Piastri of McLaren and Andy Murray in London earlier this year.
