JUST IN:The snooker final is interrupted as the referee……

The referee incredibly catches a fly hovering around the table, interrupting the snooker final.

At a snooker final, bizarre circumstances unfolded as referee Marcel Eckardt had to step in and grab a fly.

A fly buzzed around the table during the sixth frame of Sunday’s Scottish Open final between Gary Wilson and Noppon Saengkham, and the referee firmly took matters into his own hands – literally. Wilson triumphed 9–5 in his title defense, but not before an unexpected guest was spotted in Edinburgh.

With a 4-1 lead at the halfway point of the final, Wilson was on his way to what turned out to be a century break. But as he was focused on what was going on, a buzzing fly that was hovering over the table interrupted.

Referee Marcel Eckardt, who moved quickly to catch the fly in one spectacular action, believed that the tournament was not benefiting by Wilson’s waiting to shoot his next shot. Play could then restart. The referee grinned as the Meadowbank Sports Centre audience applauded his intervention.

To the pleasure of everyone there, Wilson remarked, “He hasn’t paid!” as the fly buzzed around the table. Before Dave Hendon, a commentator for Eurosport, said: “Yeah, a fly, there we go. Marcel Eckardt made an incredible catch! When he put on the white gloves this morning, he did not anticipate it as part of his responsibilities, but whatever.”
