Kieran McKenna  of Ipswich Town confirms Kyle Edwards’ planned summer departure.

Kieran McKenna, the manager of Ipswich Town, has stated that Kyle Edwards will be permitted to leave the team this summer.

Last season, the 25-year-old played in 30 League One games, the majority of which were as substitutes.

He participated in preseason play somewhat frequently as well, however he was left out of the starting lineup for Town’s Championship match against Sunderland and their first-round Carabao Cup matchup with Bristol Rovers.

McKenna acknowledged that the decision was reached after talking with Edwards and determining that leaving Portman Road would be best for his professional future.

“We had discussions with Kyle towards the conclusion of the previous season,” he remarked. “We both agreed that he needs to start more games more frequently and that he wants to go to this stage of his career.”

He’s been a crucial member of our team, especially as an impact player. Last year, he played a major part, but he wants to go out and establish himself as a player and further his career. He wants to do it at this point in his life.

We’ve talked about the possibilities for a loan transfer or a permanent move since those discussions began at the end of the previous campaign. He’s shown some curiosity, but so far nothing has felt quite right.

He’s been working out with the team and had a fantastic preseason. He is accessible to the team and the games.

To be really honest, the Carabao Cup choice was taken in order to support Kyle. Since you can only play for two clubs during the season, we don’t want to tie him for the entire campaign just so he can participate in that tournament.
