Boston Celtics players give new coach Joe Mazzulla their full support

Mazzulla is focused on uniting the team

An assistant with the club the past three years, Mazzulla will temporarily replace Ime Udoka, who was suspended last week for violating team policies.

Forward Derrick White said during NBA media day that Mazzulla has his full respect and is going to be fun to play for, while Marcus Smart stated that his new coach was a great guy who has been with the franchise for a long time.

Celtics leader Jayson Tatum said Udoka’s suspension was “unexpected” especially after last season when the Celtics made it to the NBA Finals, where they ultimately lost to the Milwaukee Bucks.

The forward added that the team are still trying to process what happened as they gear up for the new season.

Tatum said that although Udoka’s suspension was an unfortunate situation that nobody expected, and that he heard about the decision on Twitter, like everyone else, he believes the new coach will lead them in the right direction.

“I absolutely believe that and I think everybody in that locker room believes that as well,” Tatum stated.

Recovered from his injuries and comfortable with his fitness after summer camp, the Celtics star said the only thing he wanted to do was play basketball.

“What we have to do is get back to work and do what we do best, which is play basketb

all,” Tatum added.
