Seahawks Head Coach Five realities are revealed by Mike Macdonald during his opening news conference.

On Wednesday, the Seattle Seahawks formally announced the appointment of Mike Macdonald as head coach. Macdonald’s first press conference with the team took place on Thursday. Macdonald, who was said to be somewhat reserved, instead struck me as a knowledgeable coach with a distinct idea of the team’s future direction.

Seattle appeared to have lost its character throughout the last many years. The 12s knew right away when Pete Carroll took over in 2010 that Carroll wanted a squad that could play excellent defense and run the ball well. However, things started to change for the squad in 2015 as Seattle started to let Russell Wilson throw the ball a lot more and the defense started to deteriorate.

The Seahawks have now appointed Macdonald as head coach, replacing Carroll as the NFL’s oldest head coach. Only thirty-six is the age of the former defensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens. In his first press conference, he did, in fact, appear much older (once general manager John Schneider broke the ice and allowed Macdonald to speak; Schneider later acknowledged that he “prayed” for the Ravens to lose the AFC Championship game so that Macdonald could be interviewed by Seattle).
