Pettibone gradually worked his way up through the Phillies’ farm system after signing with them in 2008. He usually spent one season at a time at each level until 2012, when he moved up to the Triple-A Lehigh Valley IronPigs, having spent the most of that season with the Double-A Reading Fightin Phils. After being promoted to the major league team by the Phillies early in 2013, he made 18 starts for the team before suffering a rotator cuff ailment, which forced the Phillies to sideline him for the rest of the season. Pettibone made two starts in the 2014 season while vying for a spot in the Phillies’ starting rotation, but he was unsuccessful and was demoted back to the minor leagues, where he suffered a SLAP rupture.
