DEAL:James Tavernier may leave RANGERS FC to ……

James Tavernier is no longer a “scary prospect” after leaving Rangers.
Journalist Dean Jones weighs in on the implications of Rangers right-back James Tavernier’s possible departure from the team, saying it would create a big void at Ibrox.

Following his appointment as manager of the Glasgow giants last month, head coach Philippe Clement has managed to retain the full-back as a hugely influential component of the club.

However, Tavernier has occasionally faced criticism from the Rangers supporters this season due to the team’s challenging start to the Scottish Premiership and European campaign. The Rangers star is still included in Clement’s plans for the team’s future, though.

Tavernier’s difficulties This season, the Rangers finalized the signing of Tavernier from Wigan Athletic in the summer of 2015, along with striker Martyn Waghorn. After being demoted to the fourth level before to the commencement of the 2012–13 season, the Gers fought their way up through the divisions to become a Scottish Championship team at that point.

Since then, Tavernier has played a key role in a group that won a Premiership, Scottish Cup, Challenge Cup, and Championship title, securing their return to the highest echelon of Scottish football. The thirty-two-year-old been made Rangers captain, having kept the armband following Michael Beale’s sacking and Clement’s appointment this term.

However, Tavernier and his teammates have received criticism this term after shock defeats to teams such as Kilmarnock, Aberdeen, and Aris Limassol. Speaking to BBC Sportscene (via The Scottish Sun), pundit Michael Stewart believes the flack the skipper receives is harsh, claiming that the right-back is one of the side’s “main performers.”

Jones recently told GIVEMESPORT that, following an outstanding performance in the team’s 3-0 victory at St. Mirren, the rumored £30,000-a-week income was quieting his detractors. On the other hand, a recent improvement in form might have altered perceptions of Tavernier.

After Clement was appointed, Rangers have not lost since, having defeated Hibernian 4-0 at Ibrox in a Premiership match. Two weeks later, the Gers defeated the Czech powerhouse 2-1 after earning a strong point at Sparta Prague in their Europa League group stage campaign. This victory maintained the Gers’ hopes of moving on to the play-off knockout round. After defeating Hearts 3-1 in this month’s Viaplay Cup semi-final, Clement’s team will have a chance to win their first trophy of the year when they play Aberdeen in the final next month.
