NEW DELHI: Indianapolis Colts are exploring various avenues to strengthen their pass-catching options. While Georgia tight end Brock Bowers and Florida State wide receiver Keon Coleman remain popular choices in mock drafts, recent rumors suggest that the Colts might be considering an alternative route—a potential move for disgruntled Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown.

 

Reports indicate that Brown, 26, is unhappy with the Eagles, especially following a string of disappointing performances that saw the team lose six of their last seven games, including a recent setback against Tampa Bay. Notably, Brown has removed all references to the Eagles from his social media channels, fueling speculation about his dissatisfaction.

 

According to Bookies.com handicapper Adam Thompson, the Colts are positioned as the second-favorite team to acquire Brown if he seeks a move. The odds currently stand at +450 (18.2%) for the Indianapolis Colts, with the Houston Texans leading at +400 (20%).

However, it’s essential to acknowledge the complexity surrounding any potential deal for A.J. Brown. The Eagles face significant financial implications, with a dead-cap number exceeding $42 million in 2024 if Brown were to be released outright.

Yet, a trade with a post-June 1 designation becomes more feasible, carrying a reduced dead-cap hit of $10.6 million and nearly $2 million in savings, according to Overthecap.

The Colts, armed with the No. 15 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, could enter discussions with the Eagles. Philadelphia acquired Brown from the Tennessee Titans in the 2022 NFL Draft, giving up the No. 18 and No. 101 picks.

Given Brown’s previous successful collaboration with Colts’ head coach Shane Steichen during Steichen’s tenure as the offensive coordinator of the Eagles, there exists a notable connection. In his only year under Steichen’s guidance, Brown achieved career-high numbers with 1,496 yards and 11 touchdowns.
