Done deal: Pittsburgh Steelers is set to sign 3 incredible players

Steelers Given 3 Targets At Wide Receiver That Likely Could Land In Pittsburgh

Following Diontae Johnson’s trade, the Pittsburgh Steelers still need a wide receiver to complement George Pickens

in 2024. Following Johnson’s exit, the Steelers have just one playmaker in the

receiving room with whom they feel comfortable sharing most of the targets.

Who might play wide receiver number two for the black and gold in the

upcoming campaign? The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Ray Fittipaldo proposed

three experienced free agents who could step into such roles.

Fittipaldo told the fans three seasoned wideouts who might be very effective in the Steelers’ new offense while they were

on Pittsburgh’s 93.7 The Fan. Nothing happened at this point despite some

heated rumors that the Steelers were trying to acquire some of the more well-

known wide receivers available in trade. Pickens is the only receiver on the

Steelers’ roster who is a certain starter right now.

“The clock is running out. I’m not opposed to Hunter Renfrow. If the price is right, Tyler Boyd has my support. Later

in the week, Josh Reynolds was seen visiting another team.

Tyler Boyd, a former wide receiver with the Cincinnati Bengals, has been connected to Pittsburgh during the

summer. Although Pittsburgh was one of the top candidates to be Boyd’s landing

site, the Steelers and Boyd had not yet had a formal meeting or reached a deal.

Boyd, a proven receiver, hasn’t signed with any other teams yet, but he still has

a chance to play for the Steelers given his circumstances.

Boyd, who has been the Bengals’ slot wideout behind receivers Ja’Marr Chase

and Tee Higgins for the previous few seasons, is a terrific pick if you’re looking

for a slot wideout. In seven of his eight professional seasons with Cincinnati,

Boyd has been targeted more than 80 times, averaging 64 catches and 750

yards each season. Boyd would be a valuable addition to the group of wide

receivers that already includes Van Jefferson, the recently signed Pickens,

Miles Boykin, and the youthful and still developing Calvin Austin III.

Hunter Renfrow, a former member of the Las Vegas Raiders, is another sly slot receiver available who hasn’t yet been fully utilized. Renfrow caught for over 100 receptions, over 1,000 yards, and nine touchdowns in the 2021 campaign. In the two seasons since his breakthrough year, Renfrow has only caught 61 receptions and scored two touchdowns. Given that Las Vegas has no intention of resigning Renfrow, the wide receiver will undoubtedly search for a new team to put him to use. With Pittsburgh’s current receiving core being a little thin, Renfrow should have no trouble returning to his exceptional 2021 stats.

Josh Reynolds’ time with the Detroit Lions seems to have come to an end, although he tied his career high of five touchdown catches in 2023. Reynolds is coming off of arguably his best career season with the Lions, catching 40 passes for over 600 yards. In 2020 he caught for over 600 yards and 52 receptions, but didn’t come close to the touchdown production he had this previous year.

The Steelers aren’t the only team in need of another wide out. In fact, they aren’t even the only team in the AFC North looking to add one. Steelers’ rival Baltimore Ravens are set to meet with Reynolds during the week, which is concerning. If Baltimore and Reynolds don’t reach an agreement, we could be seeing Reynolds take a trip to Pittsburgh to explore.

Steelers may consider receiving picks early in the draft

As April approaches, there has been a lot of focus on the wide receiver class of the 2024 NFL Draft, which is full of talent. Even though the Steelers have questions at cornerback, offensive line, and center, they still have a good chance of selecting a wide out in the first few rounds. The Steelers are renowned for having excellent draft selections, particularly at wide receiver. The Steelers appear to be planning to draft as it would save them money.
