Done deal: Pittsburgh Steelers are set to sign an incredible quarterback player for $160m

Steelers Named Potential 2025 Landing Spot for $160 Million Quarterback

This offseason, the Pittsburgh Steelers made significant changes to their quarterback position. This offseason, the organization made the decision to let go of Kenny Pickett following a couple of underwhelming seasons. After trading him, they acquired Justin Fields and Russell Wilson in his place. By acquiring Kyle Allen to be their QB3, they appeared to be putting the final touches on their QB room this week.

Even if the QB room for 2024 may have just been completed, there seems to be

some discussion regarding what they might do in the role in 2025. In an

interview with “The Rich Eisen Show” on March 27, Eisen talked about the recent

talk about Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott’s contract predicament.

Eisen mentioned the Steelers as a possible destination for Prescott in 2025.

What would happen if the person they chose to offer the job to in the first place doesn’t work out? What if, after seeing Justin Fields all season, they decide he’s not the right guy? The Steelers might be all in. As of right now, their offense is cost-free. It’s not even $15 million, in my opinion. They will possess sufficient funds to provide Dak with more than that. I believe Dak would be willing to play out his career in Pittsburgh if the Steelers are in on him.

The End for Prescott in Dallas?

The Cowboys couldn’t really ask for much more than what they’ve gotten out of the quarterback they selected in the fourth round of the 2016 draft.

He immediately proved himself as a starter, putting together a 13-3 record in his rookie season and setting the rookie record for completion percentage. He also earned himself Offensive Rookie of the Year honors and led the Cowboys to the playoffs.

Since then, he has had multiple seasons with more than 4000 yards and 30 passing touchdowns. He even led the league in passing touchdowns in 2023 with 36 of them.

Since his debut season, he has guided the Cowboys to four more postseason appearances, although he has yet to advance past the Divisional Round. The main reason why some Cowboys fans are dissatisfied with Prescott as the team’s quarterback is that he hasn’t won a postseason game in his tenure.

Given that his four-year, $160 million deal is slated to expire at the end of the current campaign, it appears that 2024 may be his final year in Dallas, despite contradicting claims regarding his contract status. The Cowboys and the quarterback have an understanding about his contract, and the team hasn’t extended it, according to a March 26 report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

But a day later, Josina Anderson of CBS Sports revealed that the team is planning to try to negotiate an extension with Prescott and isn’t planning to let him walk free the next offseason. Should the Cowboys fail to reach an extension agreement with Prescott, he might be a compelling choice for the Steelers in the upcoming offseason.

Steelers Only Set for 2024

At this point in the offseason we know that one of two people is going to be the starting quarterback for the Steelers in 2024. It’s either going to be Wilson or Fields.

However, there isn’t much certainty beyond that.

Wilson, who is 35 years old and only has a one-year contract, has shown symptoms of decline in recent seasons.

Fields is in the final year of his rookie deal; the Steelers have not yet decided

how to use his fifth-year option, but they don’t anticipate exercising it.

This season need not be the final one with the team just because it may be the last one for both players under their current contracts. If the Steelers are pleased with either player, they may choose to extend their contract. They should be better off with whoever starts for them than with Pickett.

Still, there is a chance that they don’t like what they see in 2024. After all, there are reasons why they were able to revamp their QB room so cheaply.

If that happens, the team could finally decide it’s time to take a big swing on settling their QB situation.

In such instance, Prescott would most likely be the best choice available. It seems improbable that the Steelers will sign him, but then again, no one would have predicted this year’s offseason. Prescott would be a fantastic fit for the Steelers, and bringing him on board would establish the team as legitimate NFL contenders once more, should the Cowboys decide not to extend him for any reason.
