“Biggest Piece Of Rubbish”: Ex RCB Star On Doubts Over Virat Kohli’s T20 World Cup Spot

Aaron Finch, the former captain of Australia, blasted critics on Wednesday

for questioning India batsman Virat Kohli’s position in Men in Blue’s T20I

lineup, labelling the discussion around his selection as “the biggest rubbish he

has ever heard.” Discussions over Virat’s strategy in T20 cricket have generated

conflicting opinions as the ICC T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to take place in

the West Indies/USA on June 1, approaches and the Indian Premier

League (IPL) craze intensifies. Many fans and experts have praised Virat for his

stature, remarkable T20I record, and experience, but some have questioned

whether his slightly conservative style is appropriate for the hard-hitting, modern

T20 cricket where batters frequently hit huge sixes from ball one.

“I cannot understand that every time an ICC event, irrespective of the format, is

coming, people talk about Virat Kohli and whether he is under pressure for his

spot,” Finch said in an appearance on ESPN’s show. The largest bit of nonsense

I have ever heard is this. I have never seen a better white ball player than him.”

“It does not matter if he strikes at 140 and other guys strike at 160, when you pick up a team, you pick up a guy who

gets the job done day in and day out for his team during big games. It is ludicrous

that we keep having this conversation,” he added.

During his side’s previous IPL game against Punjab Kings (PBKS), Virat shut

down critics with a majestic 77 in 49 balls, with 11 fours and two sixes.

Scoring at a strike rate of over 157, Virat was going hard from ball one, smashing

Sam Curran for four boundaries in the first over itself during a run chase of 177.

Another notable highlight of his knock was him taking on bowlers really well

during middle overs and even choosing the aerial route.

After his match-winning knock, Virat acknowledged that amid all the chatter

around his spot, his name is largely being used to promote the shortest

format of the game in the USA ahead of T20 World

Cup through advertisements,

and he has “still got it” in T20 cricket. He also talked about though he tries to go

hard from the beginning, the fall of wickets makes him play as per situation.

During the post-match presentation, Virat said, “I know my name is often

used to just promote the T20 game across the world when it comes to T20 cricket

these days but still got it I guess.” “I aim to get the

squad off to a fast start when I

begin in T20. But you also need to be aware of the circumstances when

wickets start to fall. This was not the usual placid wicket. The speed seemed a

little off. I was limited to playing accurate cricket shots; I was unable to hit balls

over the boundary. I gave it a go a couple of times, but I felt like I needed big hits at

the other end, and Anuj Rawat and Glenn Maxwell went out fast,” he continued.

The top run scorer in T20I cricket is Virat. He has amassed 4,037 runs at a

strike rate of over 138 and an average of 51.75 in

117 matches. In 109 innings, he

has also amassed 37 fifties and a century. His highest rating is 122*. In IPL history,

he has also scored the most runs. He has amassed 7,361 runs at an average of

37.36 in 239 games and 231 innings, including seven hundreds and 51 fifties.

His strike average during his runs has been 130.16.

In addition, Virat leads the ICC T20 World Cup in runs scored and is the most

decorated batter in its history. Virat has

amassed 1,141 runs at an average of

81.50 and a strike rate of 131.30 in 27 T20 World Cup games, including 14 half-

centuries in 25 innings. 89* is his greatest score. Along with that, he was named the

‘Player of the Tournament’ in two other seasons, when India finished as runners-

up in 2014 (319 runs in six matches at an average of

106.33 with four fifties) and

semifinalists in 2016 (273 runs in five matches at an average of 136.5 with

three fifties). In the end, he was 2014’s top run scorer. Virat averages 518 during

the tournament’s nine innings of successful run chases, as He’s been fired

just once. Seven of these nine innings have included fifty-score runs. Virat

finished as the top run scorer in the Australia

2022 edition, scoring 296 runs

in six games at an average of 98.66 and a strike rate of 136.40, including four fifty-

score innings. His innings of 82* against Pakistan in a hard-fought 160-run chase

in Melbourne is regarded as one of the greatest T20I innings ever.
