Ligue 1 side snub opportunity to sign Manchester United striker for free

Manchester United has had trouble moving on during the transfer market; Anthony Martial, who never lived up to his full potential, is one such example.

Footeux claims that Lyon passed up the chance to sign Martial on a Bosman at

the end of the current campaign. It’s thought that John Textor, the chairman

of Lyon and a Crystal Palace shareholder, has turned down a move.

According to the source, “Anthony Martial, who will not have his contract extended by Manchester United, has received offers from several European clubs, including Olympique Lyonnais, when it expires at the end of the current campaign.” But John Textor, the head of Gones, was unwilling to follow through. Martial would consider going back to France, but it’s clear that Lyon doesn’t want him.

Lyon signed Nemanja Matic in January

Sticking to ageing stars, Lyon signed former United midfielder Nemanja Matic from Rennes in January.

The 35-year-old Serb may have signed his final contract to play professional football when he agreed to a two-and-a-half-year term. This demonstrates their willingness to wager on players who are past their prime. Not martial, though. With regard to the French forward, they are not making that error.
