Craziest match ever’ – Steffi Graf called out Martina Hingis for controversial behaviour at 1999 French Open final

It was all there in the 1999 French Open Final.

Renowned tennis player and 21-time Grand Slam singles champion Steffi Graf faced off against bright youngster and current world no. 1 Martina Hingis.

At the age of sixteen, Hingis became the Swiss sensation that would become the dominant force in women’s tennis by the mid to late 1990s. She had won the Australian Open in 1997.

The young talent went on to win the US Open and Wimbledon in the same year, and he added two more Australian titles in 1998 and 1999.

Hingis was regarded as the world’s finest player and achieved a calendar year slam in doubles in 1998, but she was unable to win the French Open.

Graf, who had won the French Open five times, was over ten years Hingis’ senior and had yet to win a major.
